Are You a “Yes Person” or a “No Person”?

Picture this: you’re at a wedding and your favorite song comes on. Do you:

  1. Race out to the dance floor and bust a move, or
  2. Feel self-conscious, hold yourself back, and watch from the sidelines

Your answer to that question is a good indicator of how you react to the opportunities life presents you. They may be small opportunities, like dancing at a wedding, or huge opportunities, like creating the life of your dreams. No matter what the size, I’m here to encourage you to stop putting on the brakes and start taking some leaps of faith in your life.

We all have dreams for our lives. We all have rushes of inspiration, great ideas, or exciting opportunities that are offered to us. Maybe you’ve always wanted to start a new business, open a restaurant, or write a book. Whatever your dreams include – whatever opportunities you’re presented with — it’s up to you to decide if you’re going say “yes” or “no” to them.

Friends, the sad fact is most people say “no.” Most people feel so attached to their way of life and are too scared to step out of their comfort zones. Because of this, they miss out on so many great opportunities, ones that could literally change their lives and give them a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

If you’re one of these people, let me ask you a question:

What’s holding you back?

Maybe you’re so worried about making the “right” decision that instead you make no decision. Maybe you worry that you don’t have the skills or knowledge to execute the opportunity correctly. Maybe you’re trying to avoid the feeling of uncertainty and doubt that all new journeys include.

Here’s the straight truth: decision making is hard, and uncertainty is a part of every great adventure in life. But you can rest assured that while there’s always something to be learned no matter which path you take, the ones with lots of uncertainty usually contain the most value.

So, the next time an exciting opportunity presents itself and you’re trying to decide what to do, try this:

  1. Quiet your initial instinct to say “no.”
  2. Ask yourself, “Does the opportunity make sense?”
  3. Consider what’s the worst that can happen.
  4. Tune in to your body. How does the opportunity make you feel?

It’s so easy to ignore our own intuition when we’re making a decision, opting instead to ask other people what they would do if they were us. But you know what? The most important person to listen to is yourself. If you can get really quiet and listen within, you’ll hear a small, clear voice telling you what to do. Pay attention to it.

It’s your inner wisdom and it knows what it’s doing.

I believe you have the courage to act on what you hear. Your inner wisdom holds the map to a life far greater than any you could ever imagine. Trust it, push passed the fear, and embrace the uncertainty. The life you’ve been longing for is on the other side of that leap of faith.

Lots of Love,

P.S. Comment below and tell me one great opportunity (big or small!) that you’re soooo glad you said a big ol’ YES to. I can’t wait to read them!
